TAG RUGBY WEEK 2 RESULTS   24/06/2016

TAG RUGBY WEEK 2 UPDATE

The Second Round of Gorey RFC Tag Rugby Tournament threw up few surprises last night, particularly in the Senior Intermediate League with both of the top two teams recording losses.

The biggest of those losses came by virtue of a walkover conceded by "Thursday Night Lights" to "Yong Fu", due to Junior Cert celebrations taking place on the evening of the games. This gifted "Yong Fu" with a 20 - 0 win, propelling them to the top of the table.

Other notable results for the Senior Intermediates was another win for "Here for the Beer", who won 20 -10 against "Courtown Live Saving" leaving them with a very healthy +18 goal difference and sees them in second place in the league. However, "Courtown Live Saving" scored 10 points once again this week, proving that there's nothing wrong with their scoring ability, but some work is obviously needed on their defence.

Tag newbies "Breaking Tag" broke their duck recording their first win with a 14 -9 result over "Try-rannasorous Rex".

"Owen & The Olyawns" also recorded their first win with an impressive 18 -11 win over second-placed "Hawaii-Try-O".

In the Senior Advanced league the results ran more to form, with "Try-sexuals" recording another high score by adding 22 points to their tally of 22 points last week, while beating "The Wibbly Wobbly Wonders" 22 - 4. The second defeat for "The Wibbly Wobbly Wonders" drops this much-fancied outfit to bottom of their league with lowest points scored of any team in their league and some serious questions to answer over the coming weeks.

The other standout performance in the Senior Advanced league this week came from "Two Girls One Tag" who recorded the highest score of any team in the entire tournament this week on their way to beating "Ex Lifeguards" 32 - 5. This is a team that will prove hard to beat, but "Ex Lifeguards" still have to find their true form.

"Globogym Purple Cobras" recorded their first win in a very tight game against "Boggans", winning 9 - 7.

Over in the Veterans League there was no change at the top of the table with both "Murphy's Tigers" and "Barbarians" recording wins and retaining the first and second places respectively.

"Murphy's Tigers" scored 22 points for the second week in a row when beating "Tara Meadows Taggers" 22 - 5.

While "Barbarians" also notched up a big score when beating "No Woman No Try" 31 - 9. The 9 points scored by "No Woman No Try" proving that the "Barbarians" is certainly not impenetrable.

The Verterans League also saw the first drawn game of this year's competition when the "Gym Bunnies" v "Pirates Cove" game ended in stalemate at 6 - 6-. This was a testy game only kept under control by the expert refereeing of Johnnie O'Neill.
