GOREY SENIOR WOMEN GET HARD-EARNED BONUS POINT WIN

Gorey's Senior Women welcomed Clontarf to Clonattin on Sunday.

Both teams were coming off wins in their first outing.

Gorey got off to a strong start with a try from fullback Roisin Murphy. Niamh Newens converted.

The Gorey forwards started going through their phases and strong carries from Maria Breen and Val Conyard set up an excellent platform for the backline.

Gorey were awarded a penalty just inside their 10 and Niamh Newens sailed the ball between the posts making the game 10-0.

The second half was much of the same for the Gorey ladies.

Some more great carries from Anna Nolan and Ciara Tomkins allowed Tess O'Brien to go in the corner for Gorey’s second try.

Niamh Doran was starting to become a thorn in Clontarf’s defence breaking the line on several occasions.

Clontarf hit their purple patch and phase after phase they attacked the Gorey try line. Some big hits from Eimear Hickey, Orla Besanson and Clodagh Murphy kept them at bay.

Gorey struck again with a big carry from Gorey’s Number 8 Anna Nolan.

With a bonus point in sight the ladies went up a gear and quick hands from scrum half Nicola McGrath put Triona Murray in for the vital fourth try, which she converted herself.

Next up for the ladies is a trip to Garda/Westmanstown on the 20th of October.
