GOREY J2s EDGE OUT SEAPOINT

Gorey J2s got back on the winning track with a hard earned win over a stubborn Seapoint in Clonattin on Saturday last. Two tries from Joe Naughton book-ended a consistent team effort throughout as Gorey finally put the visitors' challenge to bed in the final ten minutes.

Gorey got off to a flying start when after 5 minutes when Seamus Tomkins chipped through for Naughton to gather and dive over for the opening try. The Seapoint response was swift as they moved the ball wide and scored a fine try in the corner.

Both teams were moving the ball at every opportunity and when Robbie Brooks broke down the wing and passed inside for Cian Hadden to go over for try. A Hadden penalty ended the scoring for the half to leave Gorey 13 - 5 up at the break.

In the 50th minute Seapoint touched down to leave just a point between the teams. Gorey upped their effort and 10 minutes later Cormac Walsh touched down after a consistent bout of pressure.  Hadden added the conversion. But within 5 minutes Seapoint were just a point behind once again with another well worked try.

That is as good as it got for the visitors, as Gorey closed out the game with two quick tries in the final ten minutes. Brian Brooks finished off a good Gorey effort with a Joe Naughton try and a Cian Hadden conversion putting the final score at 32 - 19.

Gorey had some good performances with Cian Hadden, Seamus Tomkins and Robbie Brooks the pick of an exciting backline. The forwards were not found wanting either with Dean Redmond, Cameron Reynolds and Cormac Walsh showing well.
