Gorey Mens J2 vs Seapoint   18/10/2021

Incredible comeback for Gorey J2

To be 35 7 down at halftime would almost have most teams packing up and going home.

There was a strong breeze but it was mainly across the pitch to one corner.

But somehow Gorey J2 pulled off the most incredible comeback in edging out their hosts on a remarkable score of 42 40.

Seapoint ran amok in the first half and deservedly ran in some super tries  to Gorey’s Will Rothwell’s solitary reply.

Gorey  looked dead and buried.

It was 10 minutes into the second half when Brian O Leary started a run from deep inside his own half and exchanged passes with George Slattery for O Leary to go in under the posts for a superb try.

It looked like someone had switched on a light bulb Gorey started to play, and they were running everything from everywhere but had the where with all to execute with some brilliant phases of rugby that left the hosts bewildered as to where they were in the first half.

Further  tries from Joe Butler 2 Gavin McGonagle Fergal Bolger with Cian Hadden kicking all conversions to over take their hosts 42 35 with minutes left on the clock. Seapoint reduced the lead with a try out wide with the last play, but a difficult conversion attempt into the wind came up short to end a remarkable game.

Both teams served up some fantastic rugby for a very entertaining game.

Gorey had many fine performances in the second half but this was an overall team effort to secure a famous victory.

Gorey J2 have no game next week.
