BIG WEEKEND FOR GOREY RUGBY PLAYERS

Last week was a big weekend for Gorey rugby players far and wide.

At home the first teams heroic win over Division 1A side Dundalk was the talk of Leinster.

In London two ex-Gorey players battled it out in the LV Cup. Robin Copeland and Eoin Sheriff played for their respective clubs Cardiff Blues and Saracens with Robin capping off a fine performance with a try. Eoin's team Saracens though got the better as they edged out the visitors on a score of 19 - 11.

Lansdowne continue their good run with a comprehensive win over Garryowen  in Munster. Gorey's William Earle has been an ever present cog in this well oiled Lansdowne machine as they are outright leaders in the top A.I.L. league.

But pride of place last weekend goes to Gorey's James Nolan and Josh White. Both players played on the Leinster Under 18 club team. James has captained this team all year and Saturday last they had a narrow victory over Connaught to win the inter-provincial league. Josh came on in the 47 minute and gave a great display, while James capped a fine performance with a penalty and was just wide with a touchline conversion attempt. James is also part of the Irish under 18 team which will be playing over the next few weeks. Both players will be back with their club this Saturday as they take on the R & B Rebels in Clonattin  in the Leinster league quarterfinal . Kick off is at 12 o'clock. Gorey President John Breen congratulated both players on their achievements and tremendous  dedication over the last number of years. They are a credit to this club and their coaches who have nurtured both from minis to the present day. It has been a very proud week for all connected with the club and next weekend sees the seconds away to Midland Warriors in the cup and our first ever ladies fixture when they take on Old Belvodere in Clonattin kick off at 2 pm.
