J2's Remain Unbeaten

Gorey 17 Railway Union 13

Gorey J2's travelled to Park Avenue last Friday night to take on the league table toppers knowing that a win would keep their unbeaten record in-tacked and they would also trade places with Railway Union. As their respective positions in the league would suggest this was always going to be a close fought contest and both packs would feature strongly in this game. Gorey started the better with heavy contest at the breakdown leading to penalties for both sides and Glen Glesson put over Gorey's one which was soon followed by one from Railway. Railway Union started to pile on the pressure after this and were pushing for a try only to find themselves yellow carded for a incident around the ruck and released the pressure for Gorey. It was not long before Railway were back in Gorey's 22 once more and to Gorey's credit they defended well but gave away a penalty at the scrum and Railway took their chance. Railway continued to exert pressure on Gorey for most of this half but just before halftime Gorey got a penalty in front of the posts and Glen put it over to leave both teams 6pts each at halftime.

The second half Gorey returned to the field with a renewed confidence and played more of their rugby in Railway's half of the pitch and not long after the restart Gorey were putting pressure on Railway's line and after a couple of reset scums Ciaran Allen went over in the corner for a try to bring
it to 11pts to 6pts. Next score came as a result of a great run by Wille Kareney who ran from his own 22 only to be stopped short of the line and Gorey were awarded a penalty which put the scores at 14pts to 6pts. This was soon followed by a try from Railway under the posts which saw Gorey's No 5 going to the bin and Railway converted leaving it 14pts to 13pts. The last 10 minutes needless to say was nail biting and it was Gorey who got the final score from a penalty to finish at 17pts to 13pts for Gorey, putting an end to a very competitive rugby game which left Gorey on top of the table and still unbeaten. The J2's next match will be against Carlow at home in Clonattin next Sunday K.O. 1pm.
