Gorey U14s vs Carlow 2012-01-21 15:46:00

Gorey U14's took on a strong Carlow side under the lights last friday. Gorey had suffered defeat to Carlow for the past two years so went into the game as underdogs. The game kicked off with Carlow using their big forwards to gain ground but Gorey put in some big hits to hold Carlow up. Gorey stole a lineout on the halfway through Chris Bolger, with quick ball to center JackWilloughby who burst through the Carlow defence and held off the full back for a fine try. Carlow got a try soon after and put Gorey under pressure, put some massive tackles from 1 to 15 Gorey held out to half time.

The game ebbed and flowed until Carlow scored again with 10 min to go but missed the conversion. Gorey kept their heads and fought back with a powerful run by number eight Mark Hoare which brought Gorey near their line, Gorey built phase after phase and with quick work from scrum half Seamus Tomkins the ball got out to winger Daniel Sawyer to score near the posts.

Cian Hadden converted the try from a tight angle. Gorey lead by 2 points with five minutes to go.

A spirited Carlow threw everything at Gorey and were on the Gorey line but the Gorey men held out for a memorable victory. Well done lads brillant display.
