KILKENNY 14 GOREY 15

Gorey U17's made the long trek to Kilkenny on Saturday last the 29th October for another game in their Leinster League campaign. Having lost to Wexford the League leaders at present, the previous week it was vital that Gorey got back to winning ways to get a foothold in the league.

They faced a Kilkenny side that needed to win to keep their hopes alive and with terrible weather conditions the match was always going to be a hard fought battle. From start to finish it rained and every so often we got torrential downpours to contend with and made the game full of handling errors and knock ons from both sides. It was Gorey who opened the scoring when a penalty was awarded to them 10 metres back from the 22 and James Nolan judged the wind perfectly to give Gorey a three point lead. Later in the first half after some Trojan work from the forwards the ball went out into open play and Josh White made a great run up the wing and scored under the posts. James Nolan converted. This left the score at half time ten points to nil in favour of Gorey.
From the restart Kilkenny came right back at Gorey and were not going to give up with out a fight. ten minutes into the second half, with some very good attacking play scored their own try which was converted. Gorey kept working hard in these terrible conditions and were rewarded when Josh White went over for his second try and this left the score 15pts to 7pts with 15 minutes left of play.

Kilkenny scored again and converted their try to leave the score 15pts to 14pts but Gorey battled hard to hold out to the final whistle which was greeted to loud cheers. As soon as the game was over the sun came out.
