Gorey girls defeated by Tullow 2012-02-22 10:08:00

Tuesday February 21 2012

Gorey Ladies
Tullow 21, Gorey 12:

Gorey Junior girls hosted Tullow at home on Saturday last.

As expected, Tullow provided a robust and well-drilled challenge for the novice Gorey girls.

After 15 minutes of midfield rucking and counter-rucking duels, the visitors were first to score, capped with a skilful conversion.

Gorey's Caoimhe Molloy finished a sustained forward drive to score a hard-earned try, converted by her younger sister, Orla, who, in the secondhalf showed great pace to beat a retreating Tullow defence, and cross the whitewash.

She narrowly missed the conversion on this occasion.

That proved to be Gorey's last score, with the more experienced Tullow girls running up another converted try to finish the game 21-12 to the visitors after an entertaining contest.

The game provided plenty of reasons for optimism for the potential of the girls' game in the south-east, and it is hoped that this enthusiastic Gorey team will go from strength strength.

Next up for the girls are Portlaoise, again at home, on Sunday next at 12 noon in what should be another searching test of their credentials.

Team: Caoimhe Molloy, Emma Peters, Chelsea Brun, Fiona Murphy, Lucy Twohig, Clodagh Murphy, Sarah Carton, Orla Crowe, Niamh Doran, Róisín Egan, Heather Nordstrom, Michelle Dunne, Orla Molloy, Chelsea Ward, Orla Molloy, Sophie Cushe, Sophie Levingston.
