LADIES U18s WIN CHRISTINE LIDDY MEMORIAL PLATE

Gorey U18 Girls took part in the invitational Christine Liddy Memorial rugby tournament, hosted by St. Mary's RFC in Limerick City on March 10th last.

Also participating were Thurles, Dunmore, and hosts St Mary's. First up were St Marys and Gorey. This was a hard fought battle, with the hosts first on the scoreboard after their No 8 took a quick tap penalty and touched down at the corner flag, despite the best efforts of Aine Ni Scannail and Caitlin Crowe. The conversion was missed.

Gorey were fortunate not to concede a second on the stroke of half time, with several of their players managing to hold up the ball under the posts. The second half was a finely balanced affair, with Gorey's pack making steady progress up the pitch, only for the back's handling to let them down as the ball was spread wide. The game was decided by another quick tap penalty by St Mary's, when the retreating Gorey girls were unable to repel the attacking pack.

The game finished 12-0 to St Mary's.

Gorey's second match was against Dunmore of Connacht, and this proved a more free flowing spectacle, with both sides keen to keep the ball alive. Tries by Emer Breen and Lauren Farrell Mc Cabe proved decisive for Gorey, with Maeve Farrell providing a conversion and a penalty to finish the match 18-7 in Gorey's favour, and provide the Leinster girls with a well deserved Christine Liddy Memorial Plate.
