GOREYS J1s KICK OFF LEINSTER LEAGEUE WITH A WIN

Gorey 1st team kicked off their Leinster League Division 2A campaign with a visit to Clane on Sunday last.  Gorey came into the game on the back of two good wins  and were quietly confident of  a good result. The game kicked off with Gorey playing into a strong wind, but Gorey soon established a good platform and good rucking and quick hands saw Daragh O Leary go over in the corner with a three on one overlap. Aidan O Brien was just wide with a difficult conversion attempt. Gorey lead was short live as Clane were awarded a penalty in the Gorey 22, the opted for touch and from a maul Gorey were again penalised, a quick tap saw the  Clane second row go over, followed by an excellent conversion gave Clane a two point lead.
Clane started the second half better and but after some prolonged pressure in the Gorey 22 only managed to come away with a penalty putting them five points ahead.

Gorey shuffled things around and brought on the fresh legs of Ciaran Hennesy, Phil Horan, Ciaran Allen and Jack Sykes and moved Matt Bater from centre to scrum half which injected alot of energy into their play.

Phil Horan managed to cross the line for Gorey after a quick penalty and Killian Breen scored after some excellent back play from Colin Peevoy and Aidan O'Brien to give Gorey a 17 - 10 victory. Gorey were unlucky not to get the bonus point as Phil Horan had two more tries ruled out by the referee.

Best for  Gorey in the pack were Adrian Copeland and Daragh O'Leary while Neil O'Loughlin had a very played very well in his first Leinster League game. The pick of the backs was Matt Bater. Man of the Match goes to Gorey Captain Paul Redmond after an outstanding display.

Unfortunately the seconds had  no game as Clane have pulled out of the J2 league.

Gorey's next game is at home to Killkenny next Saturday evening in Clonattin, and what a evening of rugby that promises to be with Gorey fielding a J3 team for the first time in the league for over 12 years.

The games kick off with the J3 game  versus Unidare  at 3pm  with the J2 versus Kilkenny at 6 pm .

This is followed by Gorey J1 Versus Kilkenny at 7.30.

This is a rematch of lasts seasons Towns cup match which Gorey lost  by 5 points to 3, needless to say  a close contest is expected.

The Leinster versus Munster game will be on the big screen so a big night with plenty of action is promised. All support welcome.
