GOREY U14s ARE LEINSTER CUP CHAMPIONS

There was a minute's silence for Martin Newens who had passed away a few days before this U-14 Leinster Cup final.

His son Sean was playing for Gorey and Martin had attended all his games before taking ill.

Finals are always tough and this was no exception, with Boyne dominating possession in the first half, but it came to no avail as the Gorey lads dug deep and kept Boyne out despite numerous chances.

Dylan Sawyer, Tadgh O'Neill and Toby Falconer were brilliant, and Boyne thought they had the line after a number of phases, but due to the quick thinking of the Gorey lads, they were stopped in their tracks.

Paddy O'Hagan had an excellent game on the wing, showing excellent catching skills and making ground on when he carried but still the first half finished scoreless.

The second half started well for Gorey and they flew from the blocks. Mark Kehoe was a miniature version of the Tullow Tank as he never backed off from a tackle and was quick to recycle after each take down.

Gorey eventually broke the deadlock from a scrum on the five meter line. Jack Ryan picked up and ran for the first phase, before passing to Toby Falconer, who was stopped short of the whitewash.

However the next phase saw the ball passed out to Sean Wafer who broke the Boyne line to score the only try of the game. Niall Murphy took the kick for conversion and got the two points hitting the post in doing so.

This gave Gorey a seven-point lead and it proved to be the decisive score despite a number of good Boyne plays.

To all the lads, a sincere well done from all at Gorey RFC, and a big thanks to the coaches Kevin Bolger, Declan Gibney and James Tomkins.
