Captains Message

As this year’s captain of Gorey RFC, I would like to personally welcome all players, supporters, visitors and new faces to Clonattin this coming season. I am greatly honoured and privileged to represent and "lead" this great club to what is sure to be another great season following in the footsteps of some iconic men (J.P. Redmond, Matthew Bater, etc.).

I would like to thank last year’s captain Matthew Bater for his incredible dedication and commitment to this club. Matthew led this great club to arguably the clubs most successful season and he will forever be remembered for his great leadership on and off the pitch.

It is important to me to acknowledge the huge commitment from all our coaches, management and back-room staff. We as players are extremely appreciative of the effort and time you expend. I would also like to thank the club sponsors (Stafford’s Bakery and Pettit’s Supervalu), the trustees and all other members of the club for their continued support of our club.

Under the guidance of head coach Philip Horan we were only defeated in one game last year and although we're stepping up in grade we feel our club is more than capable of competing and excelling at the top end of Division 1B and the Towns Cup. I'm delighted to say Phillip Horan will be guiding us again this year in our quest for further glory.

We are blessed with great people in our club. People who make the club what it is; Norman Spencer, Denise Walsh, John O’Loughlin, Liam Hempenstall and incoming Club President David O’Neill, to name but a few who on a regular basis give up their time to better this club and in doing so have turned this club into a tight knit family - a wolf pack of sorts.

On that note I will sign off with a quote growing popular within our rugby club…

“For the strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the wolf”

Gorey RFC dares to dream big and this club is going places.

Thank you for your continued support.
