I would like to give a big welcome to everybody in Gorey Rfc and wish everybody the best for the coming season 2018/19.

In particular I want to welcome our Club President Niall Slattery on the exciting year ahead as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary.

As we embark on our 50th Anniversary, this year in particular is a time of reflection on how the club has developed since its inception in 1968, the men and women who have dedicated themselves to the development of the club both on and off the field. There has been huge developments over that period from the ground purchase, the changing rooms and bar, pitch development and training areas, floodlights on both pitches and more recently a state of the art high performance gym.

We will continue to develop our facilities by adding new dressing rooms and facilities to enhance our club for both men and women, boys and girls.

In order to achieve these developments we have had many fundraisers down the years in particular the national and international sheep shearing competitions and again in more recent times Strictly Come Dancing, Lip Sync and White Collar Boxing. These fundraisers raise vital monies for the club to grow and develop and thus it's very important that all our members actively support these events.

Our sponsors, many of whom have been with us for a long number of years are without fail what allows us to plan with confidence year on year and whose support is very much appreciated. Our Senior Sponsors, Pettitt's SuperValu, Youth Rugby, Stafford’s Bakery, senior gear sponsor Casey Concrete and Gardiner Grain. We have many more sponsors for dug outs, pitch signs, score board, post pads we thank you all. We look forward to working closely with all our sponsors to maximize the benefit for all involved.

We will be fielding 20 teams this year in Gorey Rfc , from mini, youths, both boys and girls to our senior men and women. This is a huge undertaking and wish our coordinators and coaches/managers all the best.

I would like to wish our senior club captain Stephen Gardiner every success and enjoyment as the team embark another season in a very competitive Division 1A of the Leinster League. Also our senior women’s captain Ciara Tomkins in their pursuit in Division 2 of the Leinster league.

We wish our senior Men’s coaches Phil Horan, Phil De Barra, Lloyd Furlong and Aidan O’Brien, and our Senior Women's coaches Jason Emery and Elaine Colfer an exciting and productive year.

Gorey Rfc has developed over the last 50 years because of you our members whether it be coaches, committee members, co-ordinators or volunteers as a whole, we cannot achieve it without your help.

As we go into the next phase of Gorey Rfc we will continue to develop our club to make your club the best it can be.

Many Thanks

Brian Willoughby
