TOMMY NEW SHINES FOR GOREY J2S V DLSP   18/09/2016

Gorey seconds were also entertaining De La Salle Palmerston, in what proved to be a cracking game, with Gorey coming from an 8 - 3 deficit to eventually win out on a score of 21 - 15. This was a tremendous performance by this young team with a number of players putting in eye catching displays.

DSLP opened the score with a try after some good work by their pack. Gorey settled and good work by the pack opened there account with a David O Neill penalty. Just before halftime DSLP stretched their lead to 8 - 3.

The second half saw Gorey up their game as they started to put the phases together. They were duly rewarded when a David O Neill penalty reduced the arrears on the 50th minute. The cracks were starting to appear in Salmo's defence and endeavour finally paid off for the lively Tommy New who turned up in midfield to race over for a try. Gorey were growing in confidence with every minute as the game headed into the last quarter. There was still work to do as Salmo rallied. But again a quick thinking Tommy New raced the length of the pitch to score his second try, for David O Neill to convert, to put Gorey 18 - 8 to the good. A further Steven Horan penalty saw Gorey stretch their lead before a final rally by the visitors reduced the lead to 21 - 15. This was a great result for this young team which featured many of last year's under 18's.

Best for Gorey were Josh Sinnott, Stanley Hadden and William O Morchoe in the pack with Steven Horan, Jack Willoughby and man of the match Tommy New.
