A comprehensive scoreline of 30 - 5 might suggest a very one sided game but Gorey will look back knowing that failure to take your chances when presented can be very costly at this level. This is not to take away from the home team as they were full value for their win and from the beginning set their stall out.

Within the first ten minutes Gorey were 6 - 0 down to two penalties. In between those two penalties the visitors had a great chance to open their account when Steven Duke made a great run but was just stopped short of the line.

On the 20th minute Dundalk arrived again in the visitors twenty two and a well-rehearsed move saw them split the Gorey defence to go in under the posts for the simplest of conversions to extend their lead to 13 - 0.

Gorey had their moments and had two good chances when from a lineout Killian Breen was just short and the resulting play saw Tommy New also unable to breakdown the home defence.

13 - 0 was how it was at halftime.

The second half saw Gorey start the better and within two minutes Paul O Connor crossed for a try to leave 8 between the sides.

Gorey were now starting to put some phases together and a beautiful break by Garret Bater nearly paid dividends but Dundalk somehow managed to snuff out the threat.

Gorey were showing some signs of intent but on the 50th minute that was snuffed out when Dundalk crossed to put 15 between the teams.

Gorey huffed and puffed but when things are not going your way the harder you try the worse it gets. Dundalk added two further tries on the 60th and 70th minute to seal the game and secure the bonus point.

This was a difficult day for Gorey, but they must move on as next week they travel to league leaders Ashbourne.

Despite the loss Gorey had some good performances with Robert Harrington Steven Duke and man of the match Garrett Bater the pick.
