J2'S SETTLE FOR A DRAW   13/01/2014

_
                           Roscrea  7  Gorey 7

Gorey J2's like their counterparts the J1's were ahead of Carlow in this league before the start of todays game. With Carlow's game against North Kidare called off because of a bereavement Gorey J2's had a chance to establish a commanding lead at the top of the league and one step closer to the title.
This game was played in atrocious conditions with scrums, knock ons and penalties being the order of the day. With Roscrea opening the scoring with a try and conversion Gorey came back at them and mauled over their own try from Will Kearney and Clinton Furney converted and both teams reached the break 7pts a piece.
The second half was no better with the conditions getting worse, the game became a mud bath and you could only see the white of players' eyes and the referee had a job making out which team was which as some of the pictures in the galley will show. Gorey had the better of this half but could not score they pounded Roscreas line for the most part of it only to come away soreless. Clinton Furney had a chance to steal the win when Gorey were awarded a penalty with the last kick of the game. He gave it every chance and on a normal day it would have sailed over but the swirling winds pulled it wide at the last second and the game finished in a draw. This still leaves the J2's unbeaten in this league and with Carlow not playing Railway Union go second 7pts behind Gorey
