GOREY MARCH ON TO NEXT STAGE OF TOWNS PLATE   17/03/2014

                      Gorey  63  Tullow 7

Gorey hosted Tullow on Sunday last in the first round of the Towns Plate Competition. It was a great opportunity for Gorey J1's to face Division 1 opposition as Tullow would be in the same league as Gorey at the start of the next rugby season. However, it turned out to be a one sided affair.

Coach, Phil Horan was starting a some what different team to his usual fifteen and was rewarding some of the players for their loyality throughout the season and was trying some players in new positions. Conditions were ideal for this game and it was only two minutes old when James Nolan intercepted a pass along the Tullow back line to score under the posts and this set the tone for the game.

From here on it became a try fest with Gorey scoring nine tries, three in the first half and six in the second half. In fairness to Tullow, they never gave up and tried to play rugby, but Gorey were just too strong for them. Two tries from James Nolan and Michael Woods, one from John Condren, Darragh O'Leary, Ciaran Allen, JP Redmond and Adian O'Brien along with eight conversions from James Nolan and Adian O'Brien converting his own try brought to an end a very entertaining game to watch.

Gorey J2's will start their Cup Campaign next week with an away fixture to Kilkenny.
