GOREY 27 EDENDERRY 7

GOREY FIRST team extend their lead at the top of Division 2B with a 27-7 home win over Edenderry in Clonattin.

The game started with the visitors hitting the ground running to score a well-deserved try in the corner with five minutes on the clock.

Gorey settled and, after good work by the pack, number 6 Darragh O'leary touched down for their opening score.
Gorey were soon back on the attack and Tomás Sheehy finished off a great team effort to score their second try which Carl Coates converted.

A further penalty by Carl Coates saw the home team end the half 15-7 up. Gorey started the second-half like a team on a mission.

The back row of J.P. Redmond, Michael Woods and the ever-present Ben Horan put huge pressure on the Edenderry backs, and it was not long until the home team began to put the phases together, with winger Carl Coates going over in the corner after some great teamwork.

To their credit, Edenderry never gave up but could not break down a stubborn Gorey defence. The bonus point arrived when J.P. redmond charged over under the posts to leave the score 27-7.

Next up for Gorey is a local derby with Wexford away, and as usual a close encounter is expected.
