PORTLAOIS 0    GOREY 49

Following two impressive wins against Wicklow and Naas, Gorey Ladies faced Portlaoise on Saturday in their second away match of the season.

The girls settled into the game quickly, despite difficult weather conditions and got off to a strong start. Lauren Farrell managed to get Gorey an early lead with a try in the tenth minute after a break from Bríd Kavanagh. Lauren increased the lead to seven points with her successful conversion.

Gorey continued to dominate throughout the first half and kept play within Portlaoise's 22. Aoife Farrell was a massive presence in the forwards, punching holes in Portlaoise's defense and gaining ground towards their tryline. Maeve Bolger touched the ball down for a second try in the seventeenth minute, which was converted by Lauren Farrell.

The second-half kicked off with Gorey in a substantial lead. The girls kept up the momentum and intensity of the first half with a solid defense, once again in the hosts 22. Caitlín Crowe added another deserved try to Gorey's lead in the opening minutes after immense work in the forwards and Lauren Farrell slotted the conversion to make 3 out of 3. Gorey attacked the Portlaoise defense fiercely, commanding in rucks and mauls and securing ball. Their controlled play paid off, with Aoife Browne and Aoife Farrell earning two more trys, both converted by Lauren Farrell. With their secure lead, Gorey made some positional changes, moving Maeve Farrell from outhalf to centre while scrum-half Lauren Farrell slotted into scrum-half. India McGirr swapped from full-back to scrum-half and Bríd Kavanagh moved into the number 15 spot. The ball was spread out to the backs and moved out to second centre Maeve Bolger who made a great run to cross the line for her second try of the game, which Lauren Farrell converted.

Aoife Browne at number 8 also got another try to her name with a quick peel off the scrum and touched the ball down under the posts. Lauren Farrell scored the final kick of the game to record a 100% kicking count.

The final score was a huge 49-0 to the Gorey girls. They hope to continue their unbeaten run against Portarlington next Saturday on home ground.
