Gorey v Naas Under 18 Ladies Friendly match 2012-01-07 15:59:00

Gorey Under 18 Ladies shook off the festive cobwebs with a hard fought encounter in Naas RFC last Saturday.

Both teams looked a little rusty but Gorey opened up the scoring with a well worked try by fullback Helena Hobbs who showed quick feet to elude the despairing tackles from the Naas defence on 8 minutes. Lauren Farrell Mc Cabe, playing scrum-half, was unsuccessful with her conversion attempt, but made amends on 12 minutes when Brid Kavanagh, playing 13, scored a great try under the posts.

Aoife Browne, showing no rustiness whatsoever, finished the first half with just reward for a rampaging forward effort. Again, the conversion narrowly missed by Farrell Mc Cabe.

The second half began with Naas in the ascendency, and showing terrific counter-rucking skills. Somewhat against the run of play, and having been caught short of the line just moments earlier, Brid Kavanagh showed brilliant counter attacking instincts when bursting through traffic in the middle of the pitch to cut through half of the Naas team and score under the posts, successfully converted by Farrell Mc Cabe. Caitlin Crowe, playing at 8, tapped a quick penalty on the Naas 22 moments later, and made a lovely offload to Farrell Mc Cabe who finished off the move with a great try. By this stage both teams were visibly tired, but Aoife Farrell, playing in the front row, shook off several defenders to score Gorey's sixth and final try. The Game finished 39-0 to Gorey, and sets them up perfectly for the upcoming Leinster Under 18 Spring League.
