GOREY TAKES SECOND PLACE IN LEAGUE 2011-11-26 16:35:00

GOREY 26 - WICKLOW 13

Gorey U17 travelled to Wicklow on Saturday, for a game that would see who would take 2nd position in the Premier Division of the Leinster League. Gorey were out of the blocks straightaway, they played some excellent rugby and ran in two tries in the first half. The first try came from Cathal O'Neill, after a backline move and a great rundown the wing to score under the posts. The second came from Paddy Chapman five metres out from the line with great interplay and ball work went over in the corner. With a strong wind to contend with James Nolan, converted one of the tries and with a penalty the only response from Wicklow left the scores 12 - 3 at halftime.

The second half was a different story with Wicklow turning up the heat from the restart and continued to pressurise Gorey. Gorey however kept solid and were awarded a penalty try under the posts when substitute Arron O'Rourke was tackled around the neck as he was about to touch down. James Nolan converted this try.

When Gorey lost James Mulligan, through injury and Josh White had to leave the field for some attention, they seemed to lose their concentration for a while and Wicklow capitalized on this and converted a penalty, scored a try and converted same. Wicklow could have got another try only for some strong tackling from Jack Cleary. However victory was sealed with ten minutes to go when Josh White went over to score and James Nolan converted it to leave the final score - Gorey 26 Wicklow 13.

Gorey face New Ross next week at home in the Leinster League.
