Boyle saves Gorey Under 15 in Cliffhanger

In their first outing after Christmas Gorey Under 15's traveled the long trek to
Tullamore and managed a slim two point win. The 12 points to 10 victory was
thanks in no small way to 2 tries from man of the match Paul Boyle

The conditions were good although the soft pitch meant that it was not a day for quick
backs to get away. Gorey started brightly and their number 8 Paul Boyle put the South
East team 5 nil up in the first 5 minutes with a powerful surge near the Tullamore line
after some good work from the forwards.

Tullamore responderd and after some untidy defending and indecision by Gorey lads
the midland team were rewarded with a try near the posts. The try was converted and
Tullamore were now in the lead 7 points to 5. Gorey tried to regroup but the Christmas
lay off was showing in some poor play and support and it was Tullamore who managed
to get a penalty early in the second half to lead by 10 points to 5

Gorey continued to try and were unlucky not to get a score by Sam Kennedy near the
corner. They managed to breach the Tullamore line again only to be held up and repelled
by Tullamore again. When it looked like the game was slipping from their grasp, number
8 Paul Boyle took a good ball off the back of a scrum to plough over the try line. It was
then all left to fullback Conor Butler to convert to win in the dying moments of a game
which he duly managed, not for the first time this season.

Although a win is always a win the Gorey lads were highly relieved to get the win which
means they hold onto their second place position in the Leinster League and are now in
line for a semi Final Decider with their old rivals Kilkenny in the next few weeks. A great
deal of training needs to be done before then!
