GOREY J2s DRAW WITH ATHY

Gorey seconds who had to win with a bonus point to deny Athy the league and force the decider to the final group of matches fell short. The got off to a great start with Glen Gleeson scoring a fine penalty from a difficult angle . Athy came back and some hood work from their pack saw them equalise with their first penalty attempt . The Gorey pack were soon back in the Athy 22 with Colin Power and James Coade doing some great work . From 5 metre scrum Gorey scored their only try when Athy fullback was blocked down by Noel Peppard who dived on the ball to score Glen Gleeson converted to leave Gorey 10 3 at half time. Athy put strong pressure on Gorey from the restart and it was not long until they scored a penalty . Gorey soon found themselves behind when Athy scored a well worked try to go 13 10 in front. Gorey would not lie down and good rucking and some strong runs saw them deep in the Athy 22 only for the away team to stray offside Glen Gleeson scored to leave the scores level at 13 all . That was it as far as scoring was concerned and the game finished with Athy crowned Champions.
