Gorey secure bonus point

11th Nov 2012

After a great victory in Roscrea last week, Gorey entertained their fellow county men New Ross on a beautiful day with ideal conditions for good rugby. Both teams needed the points for different reasons as Ross have been badly hit with emigration and are struggling at the wrong end of the table. The match started with the home team putting on all the pressure and it was not long until Gorey raced into a two try lead from Thomas Sheehy and Adrian Copeland, neither were converted.
New Ross slowly got into the game and should have added points of their own but were just wide with a brace of penalties . Gorey soon lifted the siege and further tries from Captain JP Redmond and Colin Peavoy saw Gorey secure the bonus point just on halftime. Gorey started off the second half with the pack taking the game to Ross at every opportunity and it was not long until they crossed the line again as JP Redmond finished off a move that saw nearly every player involved. Tommy O Reilly was next to score as he went over the line for a well taken try.Gorey were now in top gear and were spreading the ball wide when the Ross winger intercepted to run the length of the pitch to go in under the posts, which they converted. Ross were soon awarded another try after some good work from their pack saw them cross the line again. Gorey went on to add two further tries from Thomas Sheehy and Steven Gardiner to see them run out convincing winners on a score of 48 12. Gorey had some big performers in the pack with Steven Gardiner Jordan Ahearne and Ben Horan in great form, Tommy O Reilly Thomas Sheehy and Richard Jones were the pick of the backs.
